ColorBond Boat Upholstery Paint Saves Boat Owner Thousands of Dollars
Ian Van Tuyl owns a 40’ Azimut power boat, a high-end vessel made in Italy. High quality materials are used throughout. A beautiful vessel for sure. The boat has been in service since 2000 and the leather interior seating was starting to show discoloration. ColorBond boat upholstery paint was used to restore it to a like new appearance.
Ian originally inquired with an upholsterer about replacing the leather and received a whopping $3,500 estimate! Ian explained that the boat originally came with thick, premium quality Italian leather and the estimate only included replacement with a leather inferior to the original. Replacement using leather of the OE type would have cost even more. So, Ian decided to look into refinishing options using boat upholstery paint. Research on the internet led to his discovery of ColorBond LVP Refinisher. “I watched a few videos and decided that ColorBond was my best option.” he says.
Ian decided to keep the cushions in place when spraying the boat upholstery paint. “Only the seating surfaces needed refinishing, while the sides and back of the cushions were fine. So, I pulled the cushions out a bit so I could mask off the areas around them. When spraying, I spread the joints apart to get coverage within. Also, the leather has a slight suede texture which would leave a minor roughness after an applied coat dried. All I needed to do was rub it down with my hand and it smoothed right out. Then I applied the next coat and did the same thing. It turned out great.” Ian explains. In total, four cans of LVP Refinisher were used to complete the job. At a cost of $65.96. The cost to reupholster would have been 53 times more!
“Overall, I am very satisfied with the outcome. ColorBond is easy to apply and I saved thousands! Everyone who see’s it thinks the leather is new!” Ian concludes.
