ColorBond Releases New OEM Approved Color Choices

August 26, 2018

Did you know that ColorBond LVP Refinisher is the only aerosol car interior paint available in OEM approved colors? We got into OEM correct colors in 1996. At that time, we began seven years of testing and collaboration with Ford Research Labs to earn two Ford OEM Worldwide Performance Specifications for our LVP Refinisher.

OEM Specifications

One specification is WSS-M99J385-A2; The material defined by this specification is a pigmented one component paint suitable for accent color or low touch areas of interior polypropylene parts.

The second specification is WSS-M99J387-A; The material defined by this specification is a pigmented one component paint suitable for repairing first surface application to interior plastic parts.

These highly sought-after specifications are accepted by all vehicle manufacturers and are the gold standard for OEM performance and quality. We’re honored ColorBond LVP Refinisher is used by Ford for interior repairs on the assembly lines. And it’s the same interior paint all our customers can buy.

New OEM Paint Colors

For 2018, ColorBond has introduced 8 new OEM correct colors for Acura, BMW, Lexus, Mercedes and Porsche. Bringing our current OEM color choices to 201.

New colors are:

  • Acura – TLX Expresso
  • BMW – Dakota Beige, Dakota Gray
  • Lexus – Nightfall Mica
  • Mercedes – Porcelain, Silk Beige, Crystal Gray
  • Porsche – Magenta Red

OEM Automotive Paint Process

As we add new colors, each goes through a highly involved process to be sure they exactly duplicate the OEM correct sample. Sometimes these samples come directly from vehicle manufacturers, or Tier 1 manufacturers like Magna and Johnson Controls. Also, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche corporate car clubs send us OEM correct samples to match. In each case the sample is analyzed, and we then manufacture a duplicate color which is sent back to the source for approval.

To determine the correct interior color for your vehicle, provide the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the parts department of your local Ford, GM, Toyota, etc. dealer and they will give you the color name associated with the VIN code. The color name can then be matched to the ColorBond Color Selector to choose the appropriate hue. Of note, ColorBond is in the process of developing a new web-based VIN decoder that will provide the color name.

DIY’ers and professionals alike use ColorBond LVP Refinisher with confidence knowing our OEM colors will exactly match the colors used by the auto manufacturers. Being an aerosol spray paint makes LVP Refinisher application simple, and once again, it is the only aerosol car interior paint available in OEM approved colors.
