Car Seat Paint Used to Repair Stains

January 13, 2022

Stains; the enemy of leather and vinyl car seats and the source of dismay for millions of people everywhere. You do the best you can to ensure your vehicle is maintained and protected, but sometimes damage to the seats just can’t be avoided. Thank goodness for car seat paint.

Errant ink pens and children’s markers can leave permanent stains. Sometimes an item left sitting on a seat surface can leave marks that won’t come out. Just sitting in the seat can create wear and discoloration as well. However, car seat paint can be used to hide these stains and make the seat look like new.

Car seat paint can be used by professionals and do-it-yourselfers alike to restore seats with excellent results. The key is to choose a good quality paint that is easy to use. Many car seat paints apply thick and don’t bond well to the leather or vinyl. The heavy film thickness obscures the grain texture of the material it is applied to, making the repair stand out and look obvious. As well a thick layer of paint is prone to cracking and peeling.

ColorBond LVP Refinisher is formulated with a strong concentration of pigments which provides excellent coverage, yet with a thin film thickness. Allowing grain texture to show. It sprays on evenly, dries quickly and with proper surface preparation it will bond strongly and won’t crack or peel.

Ken Shultz had an unfortunate incident with a dog stroller that was left on the leather back seat of his 2015 Infiniti Q40. It was a hot day and materials in the tires leached into the leather, leaving a permanent stain. Ken wanted the repair to be unnoticeable and certainly didn’t want to pay for replacing all the leather. What to do? Ken ordered a can of ColorBond car seat paint in the OEM correct Infiniti color.

After thoroughly cleaning the leather, he sprayed four coats of the Infiniti upholstery paint onto the area of the stain. It blended flawlessly and looks and feels like the original leather. Ken saved quite a bit of money too. If he replaced the rear seat cover it would have easily cost $2,000. The can of ColorBond LVP Refinisher Infiniti upholstery paint cost only $17.95, plus twenty minutes time to clean the leather and apply the paint.

Rafael M. purchased this 1970 Ferrari Dino used and about twenty years ago he noticed the seat foam starting to crumble and fall out of the seat bottoms. So, he went about removing loose sections of foam and while using turpentine as part of the process made as it made the going easier. The only problem was the turpentine soaked through to the seating surface. Badly staining it. Looking into replacing the seat covers on both seats he found the cost would be $3,940. Rafael wasn’t thrilled about the expense and though painting the existing upholstery might be a better option. When researching this online he came across ColorBond and saw users were very happy with the results and decided to give it a try.

While checking out color options Rafael decided on ColorBond Sand #518, an OE correct Ford color. He says the result is excellent and painting the seats was a fun project. He applied four coats of LVP Refinisher car seat paint and used a total of two cans at a cost of $35.90. Jim trusted LVP Refinisher to restore the appearance of his Ferrari and we didn’t let him down. We are proud our product was used to restore a car valued at $400,000.00!
