Most Popular Cars for Restoration with ColorBond LVP OE

August 18, 2025

The list of cars for restoration continues to grow year after year. From prewar American classics to 1990s Japanese sport compact cars, today’s restoration scene includes nearly every decade, make, and model. At ColorBond, we’re fortunate to hear directly from our customers about the vehicles they’re bringing back to life and how ColorBond LVP OE plays a central role in transforming leather, vinyl, and plastic interiors.

ColorBond LVP OE is an elastomeric aerosol coating designed to restore and refinish interior surfaces. It chemically bonds to materials, flexes with them, and maintains the original grain and feel, making it ideal for seats, dashboards, door panels, consoles, and trim. With over 200 OEM-certified colors available, users can restore factory-original looks or explore something totally custom. Based on the projects our customers have shared, these are the most popular cars for restoration using ColorBond LVP OE.

1. Chevrolet Corvette

The Chevrolet Corvette remains one of the most iconic cars for restoration, especially among DIYers looking to revamp interiors on a budget. One great example is Ed Iverson, who transformed his Corvette C5 interior using ColorBond LVP OE in #1869 OEM BMW Luez Cinnamon Brown.

Ed used four cans of ColorBond LVP OE, one bottle of Prep Cleaner, and a can of Adhesion Promoter — all for just $120. That’s significantly less than even synthetic seat covers, which average $250 per pair, and a fraction of the cost of real leather covers, which can exceed $400.

Ed said, “I’m not that good at math, but even I can see that the savings, combined with my ability to choose from over 180 colors, adds up to ColorBond being the clear choice! Thank you for providing such an easy-to-use product line that even a novice DIY enthusiast can achieve professional results with!”

2. Ford Mustang

The Ford Mustang is easily one of the most restored cars in America, and it’s no surprise it appears high on our list of cars for restoration with ColorBond LVP OE. One standout project comes from a customer known as “Voo Doo Daddy,” who restored the interior of his 2016 Mustang GT.

Inspired by a pearl white Mustang GT he saw in 2012 with an oxblood red leather interior, he envisioned bringing the same look to his own car. But a local upholstery shop quoted him $1,500 for red leather materials and labor. Instead, he decided to use ColorBond LVP OE in #064 GM Crimson to coat his black leather seats.

“I love the look and I love the fact that it took $120–$150 in materials, and only a few hours of my time,” he said.

3. BMW 3 Series

BMWs, particularly the 3 Series, are among the top cars for restoration with ColorBond LVP OE. Andrea Garcia’s 2007 BMW 328i was even featured as a ColorBond SEMA Showcase Vehicle in 2019, thanks to her complete interior restyle using the product.

Initially considering custom leather seat covers, Andrea was concerned about the cost. An upholstery specialist she trusted recommended ColorBond LVP OE. Though skeptical at first, she was assured that the product would provide a “like new” finish that’s nearly indistinguishable from factory leather.

The project included coating the seats, door panels, console lid, and emergency brake boot in three different colors. Only four cans of ColorBond LVP OE were needed, with an estimated 2022-adjusted total cost of just $94.

“I had a good experience with ColorBond. The project was fun! At the SEMA Show, the interior got lots of compliments and people were wondering if I had installed a custom leather interior. They couldn’t tell the difference,” said Andrea.

4.  Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 ranks high among cars for restoration using ColorBond LVP OE. Michael Murphy, a professional in the mobile reconditioning industry, first discovered ColorBond at a convention 13 years ago.

“ColorBond was demonstrating the product by coating a leather jacket and then having people try to scratch it,” Michael recalled. “I was very impressed! I couldn’t feel where the coating was.”

Years later, Michael restored the interior of a 2001 Porsche Boxster. He sourced parts from a salvage yard, then coated them using ColorBond LVP OE in #098 Chevrolet Vette Red.

“The coating has excellent coverage and opacity. It doesn’t have to be put on in thick coats. So, the original surface texture is retained. The results look like the original factory finish,” he said.
