Using ColorBond as Part of a Mobile Upholstery Repair Business

We spent time talking with long time ColorBond user Buzz Williams, owner of The Fixer, a mobile upholstery repair business operating in central Alabama since 1994. We wanted to know about Buzz’s experience using ColorBond as part of his business. Here is what he had to say.

Q: How long have you been using ColorBond LVP Refinisher?
A: I first saw ColorBond at a Trade Show in Orlando about 12 years ago. I decided to try it and have been using it ever since. I do the majority of my work with ColorBond LVP Refinisher in concentrate form.

Q: What types of work do you perform with ColorBond?
A: I use it to refinish leather and vinyl. I started using ColorBond with my business of refurbishing used car interiors. Later, I started offering upholstery repair services to moving companies, furniture sales companies, marine dealers, and homeowners. Of course, I use ColorBond for them as well. ColorBond is at least equal to or better than modern furniture finishes.

Q: Have you used other brands of upholstery paint? If so, how did ColorBond compare?
A: I have used a couple of other car interior paint brands before. With ColorBond the appearance and durability are much better. As well, a I get the best results with the least amount of effort compared to the others. ColorBond may cost more but the time saved makes it a bargain.

Q: What are the challenges of using ColorBond?
A: I really haven’t found any challenges using ColorBond. I think LVP Refinisher is as easy to use, or more so, than liquid dye.

Q: How do you prep and paint a leather or vinyl piece when using LVP Refinisher?
A: To prep for a color job I’ll clean with a mild stripper, then scuff sand and clean again. Then I apply light coats of ColorBond till I have the right appearance. When l repair a hole, tear or wear in the leather or vinyl, the repair is a different texture than the material around it. So, I’ll use ColorBond to blend in and make the area more uniform. I use ColorBond for all these types of repairs.

Q: Is ColorBond Important to Your Business?
A: Yes, with ColorBond the number of reworks and call backs to redo the job have been reduced dramatically. Which increases customer satisfaction and profit.

Q: How would you sum up your experience using ColorBond?
A: ColorBond just performs better and is more durable than the rest. ColorBond helps me get the job done right the first time and with excellent results, which improves my customers’ satisfaction. I plan to continue to use it unless something better comes out, and I haven’t seen anyone approach the quality of ColorBond.

We would like to extend our thanks to Buzz Williams of The Fixer for taking time to share his experience with us.
